Author Guidelines

Introduction

  • Welcome to the Octopus  Journal: Hybrid Warfare & Strategic Conflicts, a publication of the Institute for Hybrid Warfare Studies. This guide provides comprehensive instructions for preparing and submitting manuscripts in line with scientific standards.
  • Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.
  • Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.
  • An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

 

Types of Papers

  • Original research articles (3000-8000 words)
  • Article reviews (1000-1200 words)
  • Case studies (1500-2000 words)
  • Policy analyses (1500-2000 words)
  • Book reviews (1500-2000 words)

Submission Process

  • Submit manuscripts
  • Adhere to the specified file format and include all required elements.
  • The review process may take up to 30 days; you will be notified in case of delays.

Manuscript Preparation

  • Title and Abstract: Concise title reflecting content; abstract (150-200 words) summarizing objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Keywords: 5 to 7 keywords representing the paper.
  • Introduction: State the research problem and its significance; provide an overview of relevant literature.
  • Materials and Methods: Describe research methods, data sources, collection procedures, analytical methods, and statistical techniques.
  • Results: Present findings logically with tables and figures; avoid duplicating information.
  • Discussion: Interpret results, relate them to the research question, discuss implications, and their importance.
  • Conclusions: Summarize main findings and their implications.
  • References: Use APA style, double-check accuracy.

Ethical Considerations

  • Adhere to ethical research practices, including proper citation and avoiding plagiarism.
  • Address any potential ethical concerns in the paper.

Conflict of Interest

  • Disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research.

Peer Review Process

  • The journal follows a double-blind review process by experts in the field.

Publication Fees

  • Currently, there are no fees for the review and publication of scientific papers.

Copyright and Licensing

  • Agree to the journal's copyright and licensing policies (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Contribution of Authors

  • Authorship should be attributed to those who significantly contributed to the study.
  • Declare specific contributions of each author.

Appendixes (Optional)

  • Appendixes are allowed if they adhere to scientific standards.

Technical Issues

  • The font must be “Times New Roman”.
  • The main title should be in font size 16,
  • Author names should not be included in the draft-paper or
  • Chapter titles should be in font size 14, bold; subtitles 13, bold; and any sub-subtitle should use font size 12, bold.
  • The text should be in font size

  • Figures should also have the figure number and description in Times New Roman italic font size 10.

  • After the review and acceptance of the paper, the author should place a passport-sized photo of themselves at the end of the paper along with a biography of a maximum of 100

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • Manuscript formatted according to guidelines (download clicking here for template) .
  • Title page with concise title and abstract.
  • Keywords list (5-7 keywords).
  • Properly formatted references in APA style.
  • Ethics form and author contributions completed.
  • All figures and tables numbered and described.
